Your safety and security when going abroad for University activities is our mutual priority and the information provide on this travel registry will enable York to monitor travel advisories and safety/security concerns. It will also allow us to locate and provide help in case of an emergency overseas. To ensure your safety when traveling, please also review the advice on the York international travel safe webpage.

Insurance Information

York University has partnered with GuardMe Insurance to support the safety and well-being of students traveling abroad. This partnership offers comprehensive insurance coverage and benefits tailored to meet the needs of both students and the university as a whole.

GuardMe covers medical, emergency, evacuation, and 3rd party liability, among others. Please read the GuardMe benefit summary for more information. Students must register directly with GuardMe.

Assumption of Risks, Responsibility, Release, Waiver and Indemnity Agreement
Assumption of Responsibility

I shall abide by the Program’s rules and all applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, regulations and codes governing student conduct of each of York University and the host institution, as well as the laws of the host country. I shall ensure that I have made appropriate travel arrangements and I have adequate and sufficient medical, personal health, dental and accident insurance coverage, as well as protection and coverage for my personal possessions, for the duration of the Program.

York University does not carry accident or injury insurance for my benefit and there may be matters for which I could be held financially responsible, for my own expenses or losses of those of other persons, particularly if I am at fault personally in the cause of such expenses or losses. I am accountable in all respects for my own actions, omissions and negligence, and I shall not ask York University, its Board of Governors, officers, employees, and agents to assume or accept the consequences thereof. Further, I am responsible for any claims made by third parties against York University, its Board of Governors, officers, employees, and agents in relation to such actions, omissions and negligence.

I have been advised by York University of such risks, dangers and hazards as well as the need to act in a responsible and reasonable manner at all times. York University does not supervise any of the host institution academic programs, living arrangements, or extracurricular activities during my participation in the Program. Furthermore, York University ceases to be my sponsor should I elect to remain abroad at the location of the Program or go elsewhere after the Program. My electronic signature below is given freely in order to indicate my understanding and acceptance of these realities and my assumption of responsibility.

Release, Waiver and Indemnity

I hereby release York University, its Board of Governors, officers, employees, agents, successors and assigns (the “Released Parties”) from any and all losses, liabilities, damages, injuries including death, and any other liability of any kind including negligence, howsoever arising out of or in connection with my participation in the Program or travel abroad, and I hereby waive all claims, demands, lawsuits, costs, and expenses I may incur including legal fees and disbursements.

I shall indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all losses, liabilities, damages, injuries, claims, demands, lawsuits, costs, expenses including legal fees and disbursements, and any other liability of any kind including negligence, howsoever arising out of or in connection with my participation in the Program or travel abroad.

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and federal laws of Canada applicable therein. This Agreement survives termination of my participation in the Program. This Agreement cannot be modified or interpreted except in writing by York University and no oral modification or interpretation is valid. This Agreement ensures to the benefit of and is binding upon me, my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, representatives, successors and assigns.

Photos, Videos and Recordings

I hereby grant permission to York University and its representatives the right to reproduce, use, exhibit, display and broadcast images, videos and written work submitted by me to York University for my participation in the Global Learning Program. I further grant York University and its representatives the right to distribute and create derivative works of images and recordings in any media now known or later developed as well as my name for promoting, publicizing or explaining York International and its activities and for administrative, educational or research purposes. I acknowledge that York University owns all rights to the images, videos and written work as created and in the derivative works.

I hereby waive any right to inspect or approve the use of the images, videos or of any written copy. I further waive all moral rights. I also waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from or related to the use of the images, videos or materials.

I hereby release, defend, indemnify and hold harmless York University, its Board of Governors, officers, employees or agents from and against any claims, damages or liability arising from or related to the use of the images, recordings or materials, including but not limited to claims of defamation, invasion of privacy, or rights of publicity or copyright infringement, or any misuse, distortion, blurring, alteration, optical illusion or use in composite form that may occur or be produced in taking, processing, reduction or production of the finished product, its publication or distribution.

I am 18 years of age or older and I am competent to contract in my own name. I have read this document before signing below, and I fully understand the contents, meaning and impact of this permission, waiver, indemnity and release. This permission, waiver, indemnity and release is binding on me, my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns.
